On August 7, 2026, the International Conference on China and South Asia in a Multipolar World was held in Kathmandu. Hon. Mr. Shisir Khanal, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal, H.E. Mr. Zhang Maoming, Ph.D., Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, and other distinguished guests attended the conference and delivered remarks.

Ambassador Zhang stated that China and South Asia are connected by mountains and oceans, bound by cultural ties, and share a common destiny, and they have continued to inject strong impetus into peace, development and prosperity in the region and the world. He highly appreciated Nepal’s role as a bridge in promoting connectivity and cooperation between China and South Asia. China stands ready to work with Nepal to implement the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and mutually beneficial collaboration in other fields, and jointly build a community with a shared future.

The international conference, jointly organized by the Centre for South Asian Studies of Fudan University of China and the Nepal Institute for International Cooperation and Engagement (NIICE), lasted for two days and brought together scholars, policymakers, journalists and diplomats from China, Nepal and India.
