Welcome to visit the website of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal.
China and Nepal are close neighbours linked by the same mountains and rivers, and enjoy a long-standing friendship. More than 1,600 years ago, the Chinese and Nepali monks Fa Hien and Buddhabhadra visited each other’s country, and together translated Buddhist scriptures into Chinese. Their translation works have remained influential to this day. In China’s Tang Dynasty (618-907), Nepali Princess Bhrikuti was married to Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo, while the Chinese monk Huen Tsang visited Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, and left many precious written accounts of his pilgrimage. Then in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), Arniko, the renowned Nepali architect, led a group of artisans to China and presided over the construction of the White Stupa at the Miaoying Temple in Beijing among several magnificent structures over the country. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Nepal in 1955, our two peoples have, sharing weal and woe and forging through hardships together, co-wrote the history of China-Nepal good-neighbourliness and ever-lasting friendship.
In 2019, President Xi Jinping successfully paid a historic state visit to Nepal, upgrading the bilateral relationship to the Strategic Partnership of Cooperation Featuring Ever-lasting Friendship for Development and Prosperity, opening up a new era of China-Nepal friendship. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, political mutual trust between China and Nepal has continued to be consolidated. The two sides signed the Framework for Belt and Road Cooperation, and have achieved fruitful results in cooperation on connectivity, industry, agriculture and animal husbandry, new energy, environmental protection, oil and gas, artificial intelligence, education, health, law enforcement and security, and other fields, broadly benefiting the peoples of both countries. The year 2026 marks the opening year of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. As Chinese modernization makes new strides, China will provide new development opportunities to countries around the world, including Nepal, by pursuing higher level opening up and higher quality development. China stands ready to work with Nepal to closely align development strategies, continuously expand pragmatic cooperation, and jointly pursue inclusive, mutually beneficial and sustainable development, building a closer China-Nepal community with a shared future.
As the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal, I will conscientiously implement the important common understandings reached between the leaders of our two countries, work with Nepali friends to carry forward the traditional China-Nepal friendship, promote practical cooperation, and jointly write a new chapter in China-Nepal friendship. The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nepal will continue to uphold the principle of people-centered diplomacy, serve the people and address their concerns, and earnestly provide quality services and conveniences to the Chinese nationals in Nepal.
Wish you a pleasant visit to the Embassy website! Thank you for your attention to and support for China-Nepal relations and the Embassy’s work. Your valuable comments and suggestions are warmly welcome.
H.E. Mr. Zhang Maoming
