2015-02-28 16:49

Q: The 69th UN General Assembly adopted a resolution by consensus to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the WWII. What is China's comment on this?

A: On February 27 Beijing time, the 69th UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the draft resolution on commemorating the 70th anniversary of the end of the WWII proposed by over 80 countries including China and Russia. The resolution highlights that the WWII has brought untold sufferings to mankind, especially people in Asia, Europe and other regions, and decides to convene a special session of the UN General Assembly on commemorating the 70th anniversary marking the victory of the WWII.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN and the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. China hopes that all parties can take this opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter by drawing lessons from the history, and blaze a trail of effectively maintaining international peace and security under the new circumstances to explore the future. This echos the important consensus reached and the explicit message sent out in the UN Security Council open debate chaired by Foreign Minister Wang Yi in the name of the rotating president of the Security Council.
