Q: Fugitive corrupt Chinese official Yang Xiuzhu applied for political asylum in the US in a New York court this week. How will the Chinese government communicate with and persuade the US government to extradite Yang Xiuzhu to China?
A: Corrupt suspect Yang Xiuzhu who fled overseas has been caught in the US. The US side should repatriate Yang Xiuzhu, who is suspected of corruption in China, so that she can be subject to the legal punishment. China and the US have conducted good cooperation on many cases through the China-US Joint Liaison Group on Law Enforcement Cooperation. The two sides will deepen cooperation on judicature and law enforcement, and work in concert to combat cross-border crimes.
Corruption is a cancer of the human society. There is no "safe haven" for the corrupt in the world. No matter how long and how far the corrupt have fled, the Chinese government will bring them back to justice and hold them accountable.
