Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei's Regular Press Conference on November 12, 2012
2012-11-13 15:11

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei held a press conference on November 12, 2012.

Q: The Dalai Lama referred to the Diaoyu Islands as the Senkaku Islands at a press conference in Yokohama, Japan the other day. How does the Chinese side respond?

A: Dalai's clumsy performance exposes once again his reactionary nature of betraying his motherland and his true colors of engaging in separatist activities in the guise of religion. In order to gain his political ends of splitting China, Dalai even colludes with the Japanese right-wing anti-China forces. What he has done is despised by the Chinese people.

I would like to reiterate that the Chinese side is firmly opposed to the provision of platform and convenience by any country or any person to Dalai in any form for his anti-China separatist activities.

Q: It is reported that an agreement was reached among Syrian opposition factions in Doha, Qatar the other day, establishing the "Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces". President of the "coalition" was also elected. What is China's comment?

A: We have noted relevant report. The Chinese side always maintains that all relevant parties in Syria should earnestly implement Annan's "six-point proposal", relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the communique of the Geneva foreign ministers' meeting of the Action Group on Syria, immediately cease fire and stop violence, jointly support Special Representative Lakhdar Brahimi's mediation efforts, and launch and press ahead with the political transition process led by the Syrian people at an early date. We hope that actions adopted by relevant parties will be conducive to achieving the above goals.

Q: What is China's comment on the report about Japanese Marathon runners being barred from this year's Beijing Marathon?

A: We noted that the Chinese Athletic Association had denied the report that Japanese Marathon runners were barred from this year's Beijing Marathon.
