1. Signing Documents

In March 1960, during then Prime Minister of Nepal, B.P. Koirala' s visit to China, the two sides signed the "Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of His Majesty's Government of Nepal on the Question of the Boundary between the Two Countries".

On October 5, 1961, about 100,000 people in Beijing, China held a grand gathering at the Workers' Stadium to warmly welcome the visit of King Mahendra and Queen of Nepal and to celebrate the signing of the "Boundary Treaty between the People's Republic of China and the Kingdom of Nepal".

2. Demarcation and Joint Inspection

3. Border Cooperation

The 104 kilometer-long Arniko Highway was opened to traffic in May 1967. It is the first project aided by the Chinese government to Nepal and serves as one of the main passages of connectivity between the two countries. The highway was severely damaged by the earthquake in 2015 and the Chinese government launched a long-term opening maintenance project for it.

On May 11, 2016, the first China-South Asian international freight train "Lanzhou" departed from Lanzhou to Shigatse by railway, and then via the Kerung (Rasuwa) border port to Kathmandu by road.

In May 2017, China and Nepal signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Bilateral Cooperation under the Framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, which laid foundation for the building of the Trans-Himalayan Multidimensional Connectivity Network.

On June 21, 2018, witnessed by H.E. Mr. Li Keqiang, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China and Rt. Hon. Mr. K.P. Sharma Oli, then Prime Minister of Nepal, the two sides signed the "Protocol between the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport of the Government of Nepal concerning the Utilization of Highways in Tibet Autonomous Region, China by Nepal for Cargo Transport".

On April 29, 2019, witnessed by H.E. Mr. Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China and Rt. Hon. Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari, President of Nepal, the two sides signed the "Protocol between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Nepal on Implementing Agreement on Transit Transport between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Nepal" in Beijing.

In April 2019, China Aid Tatopani Frontier Inspection Station Project was completed.

In May 2019, Zhangmu border port resumed its freight function. Zhangmu (Tatopani) Border Port was once the largest international border port between China and Nepal, yet it was forced to close temporarily after the earthquake in 2015.

In October 2019, H.E. Mr. Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China paid a state visit to Nepal.

 During the visit, the two sides agreed to build the Trans-Himalayan Multidimensional Connectivity Network together and signed the "Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of the Transport of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport of Nepal on Feasibility Study of China-Nepal Cross-Border Railway Project".

On December 8, 2020, H.E. Mr. Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China and Rt. Hon. Mrs. Bidya Devi Bhandari, President of Nepal exchanged the letters to jointly announce the height of the Mount Qomolangma/Sargamatha.

During the pandemic, the Chinese side has ensured a smooth flow of one-way cargo transport at the China-Nepal border ports.

4. Mutual Assistance in Times of Difficulties

After the earthquake in 2015, Nepal faced a severe shortage of fuel. In November, China overcame difficulties to provide emergency assistance of petrol to Nepal.

In the second half of 2020, Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region of China provided assistance of daily necessities and anti-pandemic supplies to the Districts of Humla, Sankhuwasabha, and Taplejung in the northern part of Nepal.

In May 2021, Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region of China provided the Government of Nepal with assistance of anti-epidemic supplies including liquid oxygen, filled oxygen cylinders, and oxygen concentrators.

In June 2021, the COVID-19 vaccines provided in assistance by Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region of China arrived in Kathmandu.

In June 2021, the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of Foreign Ministry of China provided assistance of anti-pandemic supplies to the northern part of Nepal.

In July 2021, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal provided assistance of daily necessities to the regions hit by the floods in Bagmati Province of Nepal.
