Requirements for Chinese Visa Application(4 December 2023)

I.Application Procedure:

1. Fill application form online

2. Online Appointment

Photo requirements: A full-faced color photo clicked within half a year, with a white or nearly white background and no borders is accepted. The photo size should be 48mm x 33mm, the head width is 21mm-24mm, and the length is 28mm-33mm. For more photo requirement detail, click the link:

3. Submit your documents at visa center

On the date of appointment, applicants should submit the application documents in Kathmandu Chinese Visa Application Service Center and entry fingerprint in person.

II.Basic Documents

1. Original and photo copy of Passport (with at least six months of remaining validity and 2 blank visa pages).

2. A completed Visa Application Form

3. Applicant must be in Nepal while applying the visa. Valid Nepali visa for non-Nepali applicants.

4. Photocopy of previous Chinese visa(s) if any.

5. Original and photocopy of previous Chinese passport (for foreign citizens of Chinese origin applying for Chinese visa for the first time), in case of holding previous Chinese visa with new passport, photocopy of previous passport and Chinese visa page are required.

III.Supporting documents

1.C-Visa (for crew members)

A letter of guarantee issued by overseas services companies.

2.D-Visa (for residing in China permanently)

The original and photocopy of the Confirmation Form for “Foreigners Permanent Residence Status” issued by the Ministry of Public Security of China.

*Holders of D Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

3.F-Visa (for short-term exchanges, visits or study tours)

Invitation Letter issued by a relevant entity or individual in China which should contain:

(1) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, passport number and etc.).

(2) Information on the planned visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures and etc.).

(3) Information on the inviting entity or individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual and etc.).

4.G-Visa (for transit through China)

(1) Confirmed connected air (train or ship) ticket to destination country.

(2) Valid visa for the destination country.

5.J1-Visa (for foreign journalists stationed in China for more than 180 days)

Visa Notification Letter issued by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.

6.J2-Visa (for foreign journalists going to China for short-term news coverage)

Visa Notification Letter issued by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China or other authorized unit in China.

7.L-Visa (for going to China as a tourist)

(1) Air ticket booking (round trip), hotel reservation in relevant cities in China and daily itinerary, or invitation letter issued by a relevant entity or individual in China which contain:

a) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, passport number and etc.).

b) Information on the planned visit (arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, financial source for expenditures and etc.).

c) Information on the inviting entity or individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual).

d) If invited by Chinese individual, Chinese individual’s passport and ID’ photocopy are required.

(2) Personal bank statement of last three month (for first-time applicants).

8.M-Visa (for going to China for commercial and trade activities)

(1) Documents on the commercial activity issued by a trade partner in China, or trade fair invitation or other invitation letters issued by relevant entity or individual which contain:

a) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, passport number and etc.)

b) Information on the planned visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures and etc.)

c) Information on the inviting entity or individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual and etc.).

(2)For first-time applicants:

a) Recommendation letter from the sending Nepali company and signed by the person in charge of the company

b) Company registration & PAN registration

c) Personal or company bank statement of the last three month

9. Q1-Visa (for visiting family members of Chinese citizens or foreigners with Chinese permanent residence, intended duration of stay exceeding 180 days)

*“Family members” refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

(1) An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China. The invitation letter should contain:

a) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, passport number and etc.)

b) Information on the visit ( purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures and etc.)

c) Information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address,, signature of the inviting individual and etc.)

(2) Original and photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of family members between applicant and inviting individual.The certificate of kinship should be authenticated at the embassy of China in Nepal if issued in Nepal or other countries;

(3) Photocopy of the inviting individual's Chinese ID ( for overseas Chinese, Chinese from Macao, Hongkong and Taiwan residents, photocopy of passport, Reentry permit, Mainland travel permit for Taiwan Residents and working/residing certificate of more than 6 months in China)or foreign passport and permanent residence permit.

*Holders of Q1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

10.Q2-Visa (for visiting relatives who are Chinese citizens or foreigners with Chinese permanent residence, intended duration of stay no more than 180 days)

(1) An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China. The invitation letter should contain:

a) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, passport number and etc.)

b) Information on the visit ( purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, arrival and departure dates, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures and etc.)

c) Information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, signature of the inviting individual and etc.)

(2) Photocopy of the inviting individual's Chinese ID ( for overseas Chinese, Chinese from Macao, Hongkong and Taiwan residents, photocopy of passport, Reentry permit, Mainland travel permit for Taiwan Residents and working/residing certificate of more than 6 months in China)or foreign passport and permanent residence permit.

11.R-Visa (for high-level talents or whose skills are urgently needed in China)

Confirmation letter for high level foreign talents.

12.S1-Visa (for visiting foreigners working or studying in China to whom they are spouses, parents, sons or daughters under the age of 18 or parents-in-law, intended stay in China exceeds 180 days)

If the inviting individual is currently working or studying in China:

(1) Invitation letter from the inviting individual.

a) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, passport number and etc.)

b) Information on the visit ( purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, arrival and departure dates, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures and etc.)

c) Information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address,  signature of the inviting individual and etc.)

(2) Photocopy of the inviting individual's passport and residence permit.

(3)The original and photocopy of the proof of family relationship between the applicant and the inviter (marriage certificate, birth certificate, proof of kinship issued by the police station or respective governmental departments or notarized kinship certificate, etc.). The certificate of kinship should be authenticated at the embassy of China in Nepal if issued in Nepal or other countries;

If the applicant applies with foreigner who applies X1 visa or Z visa together:

(1) Photocopy of application documents for X1 visa or Z visa;

(2)The original and photocopy of the proof of family relationship between the applicant and the inviter (marriage certificate, birth certificate, proof of kinship issued by the police station or respective governmental departments or notarized kinship certificate and etc.). The certificate of kinship should be authenticated at the embassy of China in Nepal if issued in Nepal or other countries;

(3)Declaration letter issued by related entity.

If applicant is relative of foreign journalist and is going to China together:

Visa Notification Letter issued by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China

*Holders of S1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

13.S2-Visa (for visiting family members who are foreigners working or studying in China with intended stay in China no more than 180 days)

"Family members" refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.

If for short family visit:

(1)An invitation letter issued by the inviting individual (a foreigner who stays or resides in China for work or studies) which contains:

a) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, passport number and etc.)

b) Information on the visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures and etc.)

c) Information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, signature and etc.)

(2) A photocopy of the inviting individual's (a foreigner who stays or lives in China for work or studies) passport and residence permit.

(3) Photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of family members between the applicant and the inviting individual.

For private affairs, documentation identifying the nature of the private affairs should be provided as required by the consular officer.


14.X1-Visa (for studying in China for more than 180 days)

For new students:

(1) Photocopy of "Confirmation Form for Study in China" (Form JW201 or Form JW202)

(2) Photocopy of Admission Letter issued by a school or other entities in China

For students returning to school in China:

Original of studying certificate issued by school and photocopy of previous X1 visa and study residence permit.

*Holders of X1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

15.X2-Visa (for studying in China for no more than 180 days)

(1) Photocopy of Admission Notice issued by a school or other entities in China

(2) Photocopy of "Information Form for Foreign Students' Short-term Visit" (Form DQ)(if any)


16.Z-Visa (for working in China)

Original of Foreigners Employment Permit or Notification Letter of Foreigner's Work Permit in the People's Republic of China issued by Chinese government authorities for Human Resources and Social Security.

*Holders of Z Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

Special Reminder

(1) Invitation letter may be in the form of fax, photocopy or computer printout, but consular officers may require submission of the original of the invitation

(2) If necessary, consular officers may require the applicant to provide other proof documents or supplementary materials, or require an interview with the applicant.

(3) Consular officers will decide on whether or not to issue the visa and on its validity, duration of stay and number of entries in light of specific conditions of the applicant.
