Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’,

Hon’ble Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. Sudan Kirati,

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Lumbini Mr. Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary,

Venerable Metteyya Sakyaputta, Vice Chairman of Lumbini Development Fund,

Respected Han Song, Secretary General of China Religious Culture Communication Association,

Respected Master Yin Shun, Vice President of the Chinese Buddhist Association, Abbot of the Chinese Temple of Nepal,

Distinguished guests and friends,

Good morning and Namaste,

It is my honor to be here on this special occasion of the 2567th Buddha Jayanti and Lumbini Day. Today, we gather to commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of Lord Buddha and celebrate the profound impact his teachings have had on our lives.

Recently, President Xi Jinping put forward the Global Civilization Initiative, stressed the importance of the respect for the diversity of civilizations. The cultural ties between China and Nepal could be traced back to the 1,000 year-old bond of Buddhism that was started by the visit of the eminent Chinese monk Fa Xian. Xuanzang, a monk of Tang Dynasty, went on a pilgrimage to the west for Buddhist scriptures. He visited Nepal and his book helped to confirm that Lumbini was the birthplace of Lord Buddha. After the Buddhism was introduced into China, the religion went through an extended period of integrated development. The Chinese people have enriched Buddhism in the light of Chinese culture, thus making a deep impact on the religious belief, philosophy, literature, art, and customs of the Chinese people. Those inter-civilization exchanges not only fostered our friendship, but also showed the determination and fortitude of the Chinese people to learn from other cultures.

In recent years, under the leadership of H.E. President Xi Jinping and the leaders of Nepal, our people to people exchanges are flourishing, and have become an integral part of our Strategic Partnership and BRI cooperation. As the first Chinese Buddhism temple built abroad by the Buddhist Association of China, the Chinese Temple of Nepal made important contributions to our religious cultural exchanges. According to Buddhism, everything is based on one’s wishes. The more sincere the wish, the more fruitful the results. As our relationship entered into a new stage, China and Nepal need to turn our wishes into a driving force and enhance exchanges and cooperation in various fields. Together we can make big strides on the path to modernization toward the goal of building a community with a shared future for mankind.

At last, as we celebrate this auspicious occasion, may we all be blessed with peace, love and compassion, may China-Nepal friendship last forever.

Thanks.
