On the morning of June 20, 2025, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji met with Prime Minister of New Zealand Christopher Luxon in Beijing.
Zhao Leji stated that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and the leaders of New Zealand, the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and New Zealand has maintained a good momentum of development and brought benefits to the two peoples. China is ready to carry forward the traditional friendship with New Zealand, enhance mutual understanding and mutual trust, adhere to mutually beneficial cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, and constantly enrich China-New Zealand relations. The NPC of China is ready to work with the New Zealand Parliament to focus on implementing the important common understandings reached between the leaders of both countries, deepen friendly exchanges, enhance collaboration in multilateral mechanisms such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, learn from each other's legislative and supervisory work experiences, among others, and provide legal guarantees for practical cooperation between the two countries.
Christopher Luxon stated that New Zealand firmly pursues the one-China policy, and that the relations between the two countries have continuously achieved high-quality development. New Zealand is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in economic, trade, people-to-people and cultural fields, enhance exchanges between legislative bodies, and work together to address global challenges.
