Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei's Remarks on the Japan-related Comments Made by the Australian Leader
2014-07-14 16:20

Q: During Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's visit to Australia, the Australian leader was cited as saying that the Australians admired the skill and the sense of honor that the Japanese forces brought to their task although Australia disagreed with what Japan did. These remarks have caused considerable controversy inside Australia. What is China's comment on that?

A: The Japanese fascist aggressors brought untold sufferings to people of many countries, including Australia during WWII in extremely cruel ways that were utterly devoid of conscience. If the report was true, we believe that no one, as long as he or she is of conscience, would agree with what the Australian leader has said.
