Notice on Updated Requirements for Chinese Visa Application

I. Starting from June 15, 2022, the Embassy of China in Nepal will make adjustments on visa application to China and accept the following applications:

(1) Foreigners who intend to work in China can apply for a Z-Visa(work visa) with the Notification Letter of Foreigner’s Work Permit in the PRC or the Foreigner’s Work Permit in the PRC.

(2) Foreigners who intend to engage in economy and trade, education, science and technology, sports, culture and other activities in China can apply for M-Visa(business visa)or F-Visa(visit visa) with the PU Letter (invitation letter)  issued by Chinese central government agencies and enterprises, provincial level foreign affairs office or commercial department, foreign affairs office of prefecture level city and other relevant authorities.

(3) Foreign family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with Permanent Residence Card in China (family members refer to spouse, parents, parents-in-law, children, spouse of children, brothers and sisters, grandparents and grandchildren), who intend to go to China for long-term residence (more than 180 days) or short-term visit (less than 180 days), can apply for Q1-Visa or Q2-Visa(reunion visa).

(4) Family members (spouse, parents, children under the age of 18, parents-in-law) of the foreigner holding a valid work visa or work-type residence permit,with the intention of staying for long-term (more than 180 days) or visit relatives for short-term in China(less than 180 days), can apply for S1-Visa or S2-Visa (personal affairs visa). The adult children and their spouses can apply for S2-Visa for short-term visiting relatives.

(5) For emergency humanitarian visa, such as going to China for a funeral or visiting a critical patient, application is acceptable.

(6) Applications of diplomatic and official courtesy visas, talent visas and crew visas are accepted as usual.

Note: Applicants for visa category (1), (2), (3), (4) are requested to be inoculated with Covid-19 vaccines approved by China or the World Health Organization. Vaccination certificates are required (exclusive of young children and those who do not meet the local vaccination requirements due to illness ) 

II. Since May 10, 2021, the Embassy of China in Nepal has launched the online visa application and booking system. All visa applicants are supposed to log in https://cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn or https://avas.cs.mfa.gov.cn to fill out the visa application form. China Visa Application Service Center (https://www.visaforchina.org) is another option for applicants.

III.  Enquiries of Hong Kong’s and Macao’s visa policy can be answered on the official website of the Immigration Department of Hong Kong SAR of China (https://www.immd.gov.hk) and the Public Security Police Department of Macao SAR of China(https://www.fsm.gov.mo/psp/cht/main.html) during the pandemic.

IV. As of application for diplomatic visa, official visa and talent visa, you are free to contact the Embassy by email: kathmandu@csm.mfa.gov.cn

With regard to application for work (Z), business (M), visit (F), reunion (Q1 or Q2), personal affairs (S1 or S2) and crew (C) visas, you are free to contact Kathmandu Chinese Visa Application Service Center(www.visaforchina.org)with its information as below:

V. Starting from June 15, 2022, Nepali and other foreign citizens holding valid Chinese residence permits for work, reunion, personal affairs and journalist can go to China from Nepal without applying for the visa.
