On September 21, 2011, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Mr. Yang Houlan attended Chinese Books Donation Program and on behalf of Hanban donated Chinese books worth 250,000 Chinese yuan to fourteen schools in Nepal. The donation consisted of teaching materials, teaching guidance, Chinese readings, picture albums, audiovisual products, maps, E-audible teaching aids. Mr. Awasthi, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Education of Nepal, principals, volunteer Chinese teachers and more than 100 guests took part in the program.
In his speech, Ambassador Yang said, teenagers are hope of a country. He hoped the Nepalese teenagers can inherit the friendship between China and Nepal. He felt very pleasant to find that more and more Nepalese students were eager to learn Chinese. The donation would help Nepalese students in their learning of Chinese and China, and make them envoys to promote friendship of the two sides. The students' enthusiasm about Chinese learning gave him confidence in the future relations between China and Nepal.
Mr. Awasthi said, the government of China had provided long-term support to the education cause of Nepal. Some schools had opened Confucius colleges and Confucius classes with the help of more than 50 volunteer Chinese teachers. The Chinese government had also offered more than 100 scholarships to Nepalese students every year. He was very appreciated for the donation of Chinese books by Hanban. China has emerged as the second largest world economy which makes it necessary for Nepalese students to learn Chinese. He hoped the Nepalese students can learn from China's success and contribute to the development of Nepal.
At the program, Nepalese students played songs and dances and delivered speeches in Chinese.
