1.    Your Excellency, being the closest neighbours, Nepal and China have a quite a long history of bilateral ties. How do you take Nepal-China bilateral relations? What is its significance?

Nepal and China are friendly and close neighbors for generations. It has been 56 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations on August 1, 1955. Regardless of how the international and domestic situation changed, our bilateral relations have maintained a healthy and stable development.

As the new Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, I will do my best in my term to push forward our bilateral relations and deepen our bilateral cooperation. In recent years, the exchanges and cooperation in politics, economy, culture, sports, religion and education between the two countries are heating up and showing a good momentum. I firmly believe that with the continuous pushing forward our comprehensive cooperation, the development of various aspects in the two countries will accelerate and the regional prosperity and stability will be consolidated.

2.    It is said that China wants to make its strong presence in Nepal. Is it true? What is your say?

   The Chinese Government has always adhered to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries including Nepal. We highly respect the choice of mode of development Nepalese people have made and believe that the people of Nepal have the wisdom and ability to solve their own problems of development.

   China is committed to developing friendship and cooperation with all other countries on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and other universally recognized norms of international relations. Nepal is currently experiencing a period of transition and facing difficulties in economy and society. As a good neighbor, good partner and good friend, China will continue to provide assistance within its capacity. We will not give any pre-conditions to Nepal for the assistance, but only for nepal's economic construction and social development.

3.    We often come across the issues of security while talking about Nepal-China relations? Does China have threat from Nepalese territory?

Many countries in the world today now suffering from "three forces" - namely terrorism, separatism and extremism, whose national sovereignty, economic development, social stability and people's happiness are threatened.

  In recent years, some Tibetan separatists in Nepal, who want to separate Tibet from China, attempted to implement several anti-China activities within Nepalese territory. However, thanks to the strong control of Nepalese Government, their separatist attempts have been repeatedly defeated. Successive Nepalese Governments have repeatedly stated in public that they would adhere to the One China Policy and never allow any forces to conduct anti-China activities on its soil. The Chinese side highly appreciates the unwavering support which Nepalese side has provided to China on the issue of sovereignty and in the fight against separatist forces.

4.    Nepal is now at a crossroads, an open moment in its history. How China has been assessing this historic process?

The Chinese Government believes that the future and destiny of any countries should be decided by their own people without any foreign interference and respects the choice of the Nepalese people by themselves.

   History tells us that transitional countries have always suffered and experienced the inevitable pains and undergone the restructuring and reorganization of politics, economy, society and other aspect. Nepal is now in this critical period.

   According to my previous contacts and exchanges with the Nepalese Government, political parties and civilians, I have deeply felt that to finish the peace and the constitutional process and to achieve national prosperity and development as soon as possible are the common voice and desire among Nepalese people and political parties. I sincerely wish and believe that under the joint efforts of all people of Nepal, its peace and constitutional process will soon be completed.

5.    People say that as a communist country, China wants to see communists in power in Nepal too, especially the newly emerged power, the UCPN-Maoist. Is it true?

As a good neighbor, good friend and good partner of Nepal, China always respects the independence and sovereignty of Nepal and supports the choice of way of development made by Nepalese people which suited to their own national conditions.

 The Communist Party of China always attaches importance to the exchanges and cooperation with all Nepalese political parties. We believe that the friendship between China and Nepal is the common choice of the two peoples and is deeply rooted in their hearts. No matter which Nepalese political party is in power, our comprehensive cooperative partnership featuring ever-lasting friendship will never be changed.

6.    How China will take the newly formed government led by Dr. Baburam Bhattarai?

On August 29, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao sent a congratulatory message to Baburam Bhattarai on his taking office as Nepalese Prime Minister. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and I also expressed heartfelt congratulations and sincere wishes to Dr. Bhattarai.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to the bilateral relations with Nepal and always sees Nepal as its important neighbor and partner. We are ready to work together with the newly-elected Government of Nepal to push forward our bilateral friendly cooperation.

7.    For the last few decades, China has been able to achieve dramatic growth. What is the secret?

Over 30 years of reform and opening up, China's economic and social development have scored remarkable achievements. The Chinese Government has always taken economic development as the central task, persevered in reform and opening up and adhered to the leadership of the Communist Party of China. We have constantly absorbed the successful experience of foreign countries and have finally created the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

We believe that in the development process, borrowing advanced international experiences is very useful and necessary, but it is important to combine them with the country's specific conditions and characteristics rather than copy them simply. Since a series of major strategic policy made by the CPC and Chinese Government based on our own national conditions, we have achieved rapid and stable economic growth. China hopes to exchange experiences on development and share the fruits of development with developing countries in order to achieve common prosperity.

8.    Despite lying between the two fastest growing economies in the world, Nepal has not been able to kindle any ray of hope in its development. What do you think, Nepal needs to do?

China and India are the world's two largest developing countries and emerging economies with rapid economic growth. As a common neighbor of both China and India, Nepal, which enjoys the geographical advantages, could benefit from the rapid development of both neighbors. China hopes Nepal could complete the peace and constitutional process as soon as possible and make good use of its advantages to early access to the period of rapid economic and social development. China is also willing to make its own efforts to strengthen cooperation with other countries to further promote the development of Nepalese economy.

9.    Recently, there was news in the media that China has shown interest to support some of the mega projects in Nepal. What are they?

China and Nepal have a long history and a good foundation on mega projects in Nepal. Currently, the construction of Trishuli 3A Hydropower station and Tatopani dry dock, the repairing of Kathmandu ring road and a series of mega projects are now pushing forward.
